Apple TV+ finally named a release date for its first animated feature film. Wolfwalkers will debut exclusively on Apple’s streaming video service December 11, 2020.
The film is from the studio that created Oscar-nominated The Secret of Kells. It’s set in medieval Ireland, and tells the story of two girls who transform into wolves.

Expect stunning animation from Wolfwalkers
Wolfwalkers is about the struggle between uptight townspeople and magical forest dwellers. Its production company is Cartoon Saloon, who summarizes it with “Robyn Goodfellowe, a wolfhunter’s daughter, comes to Ireland with her father. But when she befriends a wild girl, she is transformed… into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.”

Cartoon Saloon’s The Secret of Kells was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2010. Its next project, Song of the Sea, was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category in 2015.
Wolfwalkers will hit Apple TV+ in December, but reportedly will be in theaters before then. A UK theatrical release is expected on December 30, 2020.
While this will be the first animated movie on Apple’s streaming service, there are already several animated series on TV+.There’s Central Park, a musical comedy from the Loren Bouchard, who won an Emmy for Bob’s Burgers. And there’s the educational show Snoopy in Space, which was nominated for multiple Daytime Emmy Awards.
